Who's to blame for the current economic crisis? Its a good idea to follow the money trail and see where it leads.
The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977 was the beginning of this current mess. This act requires (yes it is still in force) lenders under penalty of law to make loans to lower income earners to provide them with the ability to own their own home. Under the watch of Bill Clinton in 1995 this act was expanded to include even more people who could not afford the loans they were getting into because "the CRA had not lived up to its promise".
The penalties imposed on the lenders who refused to make these loans, forced them to make the loans or else risk being forced out of business. These risky loans were then allowed to be bundled and sold as investments creating more government beauracracy in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
The Bush administration (who I am no big fan of) tried in 2001 and again in 2003 to get congress to reform the financial industry and was both times blocked in the Senate Finance Committee. I know the Democrats out there are screaming that the Republicans were in control of the Senate at those times. True...but...
The Finance Committee was made up of 11 Republicans and 9 Democrats at the time and needed 60% to bring a bill out of committee and to the full floor. Only one Democrat would have had to approve for reforms to reach the Senate floor and come to a vote, but not one had the balls to break against his party and do so.
Who have been the chief beneficiaries of the CRA and its expansion?
Franklin Raines. A former Clinton administration budget director and current Obama adviser received $90 million as CEO of Fannie Mae from 1999 to 2004.
Jamie Gorelick. Clinton deputy Attorney General received $26 million as vice chair of Fannie Mae from 1998 to 2003. She has been highly mentioned for a cabinet position if Obama becomes President.
James Johnson. Served as an Aide to Walter Mondale and the head of Obama's VP selection committee received $21 million in his final year as Fannie Mae head in 1998.
Rahm Emanuel. Former Clinton White House senior adviser, served on the board at Freddie Mac and has opposed every reform that has been proposed for that institution in his time there. He is also credited with rallying Democrat Congressional support in the early days of Obama's campaign.
Christopher Dodd (Senate Finance Committee Chairman) and Barrack Obama. The number one and two benefactors of political contributions from Fannie Mae. Those that scream the loudest are usually hiding something...

Its not just Democrats people...
The financial institutions are guilty as well.
Many of these low-income people were duped by the lending institutions into taking adjustable rate mortgages (ARMs) and as interest rates have increased, many more of them are now not able to afford them.
Banks happily loaned money on houses that these people could not afford because the housing market was in fine shape and when they reposessed it they could sell it for a profit. But, with the current housing market (in most states...Oklahoma home values are still on the rise thankfully), the banks cannot resell them for profit and have had to scale back their lending to qualified individuals and companies to make up for their losses...
Some will claim that deregulation caused this crisis. But history shows us that when government gets out of the way, business prospers.
Why will the bail out not work?
The $700 billion package is like putting a band aid on a gaping chest wound. There are 1.2 TRILLION dollars of ARM notes coming up for review in the next few months. The payments are going to increase and in some cases double or more on those notes! People are already suffering. How the hell are they going to be able to afford even higher payments?
Many of these houses aren't worth what is owed on them and with the ever tightening credit market, refinancing is out of the question. What will become of them? It has been estimated that as much as a third will go into foreclosure. Another $400 BILLION dollar bailout then?
The only solution is to reform the laws that have gotten us here. Write your congress person and tell them that we need to repeal the CRA! Without that essential reform any bailout money will be poured down a gaping hole that has no end.

"What Really Makes You Tick?" 10 questions you should ask to yourself: a preparation to self-improvement
Be all you can be, but it's not always in the Army. I often see myself as somewhat contented with my life the way things are, but of course it's hard to think of anything else when where are real issues to be discussed.
Still I aspire for something deeper and more meaningful.
So we're all pelted with problems. Honestly it shouldn't even bother or even hinder us to becoming all we ought to be. Aspirations as kids should continue to live within us, even though it would be short-lived or as long as we could hold on to the dream. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks… or can they?
1. What do I really want?
The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your life and so little time to even go about during the day.
Find something that you are good at can help realize that small step towards improvement. Diligence is the key to know that it is worth it.
2. Should I really change?
Today's generation has taken another level of redefining 'self', or at least that's what the kids are saying. Having an army of teenage nieces and nephews has taught me that there are far worse things that they could have had than acne or maybe even promiscuity. So how does that fit into your lifestyle?
If history has taught us one thing, it's the life that we have gone through. Try to see if partying Seventies style wouldn't appeal to the younger generation, but dancing is part of partying. Watch them applaud after showing them how to really dance than break their bones in break-dancing.
3. What's the bright side in all of this?
With so much is happening around us there seem to be no room for even considering that light at the end of the tunnel. We can still see it as something positive without undergoing so much scrutiny. And if it's a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride and see what makes the world go round!
4. Am I comfortable with what I'm doing?
There's always the easy way and the right way when it comes to deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt and whatnot. It doesn't take a genius to see yourself as someone unique, or else we'll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.
5. Have I done enough for myself?
Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small amounts you'll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine doing.
6. Am I happy at where I am today?
It's an unfair question so let it be an answer! You love being a good and loving mom or dad to your kids, then take it up a notch! Your kids will love you forever. The same goes with everyday life!
7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?
So maybe I don't have an answer to that, but that doesn't mean I can't try it, though. Whether you shape-up, change the way you wear your clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should always remember it will always be for your own benefit.
8. How much could I have?
I suppose in this case there is no such things on having things too much or too little, but it's more on how badly you really need it. I'd like to have lots of money, no denying that, but the question is that how much are you willing to work for it?
9. What motivates me?
What motivates you? It's an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of the may be the hardest part. It's not like you can't have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that's it. Just try it piece by piece.
10. What Really Makes You Tick?
So? What really makes you tick? You can be just about anything you always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start that journey. Always remember, that self-improvement is not just about the physical or philosophical change you have to undergo, but it's something that you really want.

Learn to Set Goals
There are those who are bounded by laws and rules, yet success is too distant for them. On the other hand, there are those who appears to be easy going people but are successful. Think you have what it takes to be like them? Or would you rather do something different to achieve the elusive success? Take heart and set your goals.
What do goals represent by the way? These are actually representations of your visions about you and your future. Goals should be achievable and realistic. These kinds of goals allow you to put them into practice or at least do some activities that allow you to monitor your progress. However, more is involved in just merely setting realistic goals. Remember that in order to achieve your goals, you must act according to your goals. Otherwise, all else would be vanity if you do not exert effort in reaching them. The following will help you set achievable goals:
1. Enhance your skills in achieving targeted goals by setting objectives, as well as standard and optional activities that will help you meet your goals.
2. Strategize and take risks in meeting your goals. Strategic thinking is very important because this will allow you to be productive and focus on the activities according to your goals.
3. Act in accordance to your goals. Proper mind setting is very important in achieving your goals. Take the extra mile. Try taking risks but never compromise your safety. Taking risks means that you are ready to learn new things and challenges that will help you in the long run.
On one hand, you may wonder why there is a need for you to set goals if you think you have not failed at all in your endeavors. Remember that setting goals does not mean that you always fail. Setting goals means that you are acknowledging your limitations and you are ready to work your way up towards success, professionally or personally. It is for this reason why objective goals matter.
Moving forward, you also have to consider that there are goals that are just too hard to achieve on your own. At times, these goals even create conflicts that you might think of surrendering in the long run. Take heart. Everybody have similar concerns at times. If this situation occurs and you think that surrendering is the last option, why not look for a partner, a friend maybe who is willing to help you out with your goals? Collaborate with your prospective partner and learn to prioritize. If it requires spending time in plotting all the possibilities, both the pros and cons, try it.
Remember that goal setting is focused on your benefits. So try working things out and focus, focus, and focus. Minimize or avoid distractions if possible so you can work your goals better. Work that proper mindset for a clearer vision of you achieving those valuable goals. If you are vying for promotion in your workplace, it is important that you see yourself already in the position you want. If you are aiming for a personal or educational goal, make things happen by planning and doing things related to your goals. You will then realize that goals, no matter how difficult they may appear, are still valuable to consider. Once your goals are achieved, sweet success knocks on your door commending you for a job well done.

Ten Things You Probably Shouldn't Know About Me
10: I wear shorts, year round. If its above freezing; I'm usually wearing a pair of shorts.
9: I rarely wear a tie; but at one point in my life had a collection of over 100 fine silk ties in my closet.
8: If I'm not wearing shorts; I'm in blue jeans. I am very anal about my jeans. I only wear Levis 501's. No Wrangler, Bugle Boy or whatever. Only Levis. Only 501's.
7: I'm a gambler who will bet on the outcome of most anything; but I do not play slot machines or the lottery.
6: I'm a very spontaneous person. I've been known to wake up and drive halfway across the country to see something or someone, on a whim.
5: I was personally invited to both of the Bush/Cheney Inaugural Balls. Why is this strange? I am not a registered Republican and I made no donations to either campaign.
4: I have a degree in political science, but hate discussing politics. My views are extreme enough in both directions, depending on the issue, to make members of both parties squirm.
3: I hate funerals, but have my own planned.
2: I am very much into freedom of expression; but run a very disciplined household. My boys have been given the freedom to explore their own ideals and beliefs; but are amongst the most polite, well-behaved young men you'll ever meet.
